  • Chris,

We understand a few of our users are experiencing this issue. I believe it is something in the script that is loaded in the deck. Can you please email me a copy of the last script you opened in the cues deck so I can dissect it to see if I can determine the cause. If you mouse over my avatar, you will find my contact information and email address.

If you move the scripts into a new location or rename them, it should resolve the issue unless you open the script again. If you find more than one script that causes the crash, please include them in the email.

This issue is at the top of my list to track down and would love to find the culprit. As soon as I can determine what breaks it, we can fix it. Any assistance from you is greatly appreciated.

I thought that may be the case also, so I renamed the script that it was loading so it would not load any script. As soon as I click on the drop down, the program performs an illegal operation. So it does not appear to be the script.

  • Go to C/Users/Public/My Shout/V4/ and delete the contents of the User Settings folder. This should fix that, but I still think it is the script. So please send me what you can. The script may have caused it in the first place.

I had actually done that as well, but repeated this AM and now the program behaves nicely. Thanks!

This has happened again this AM. I was able to follow the suggestion above and rectify. Any idea what is causing this to occur?

    thanks!

We are in our second week after upgrading from 3.5 to 4.5 build 254. After last week's first service, I wanted to edit the script, clicked on the Cues Tab in Elements and got the Media Shout has to shut down problem. Restarted Media Shout and ran OK. This week, while preparing the first script for tomorrow, the first time I clicked on the Cues Tab, MS also shut down. After restarting, I clicked on the Cues Tab about 6 different times without a shut down. Unfortunately, this random shut down situation will prevent us from trying to make any changes during a service to preclude possible shut downs. If you want the SSC files for the last two weeks, I would be glad to send them to you.

Same problem occurred last Sunday with a different operator on the same computer. The first time he clicked on the Cues Tab in Elements the program had to close. After restarting MediaShout, he used the Cues tab several more times without the program shutting down. All 3 times we have had the shutdown from Cues Tab it has been the same - only on the first try, then it works OK.
For anyone else interested in this, we are not opening V3.5 scripts in the cues deck, and two scripts have been e-mailed to MediaShout for analysis. For John Phillips, I confirmed that the video card was a Radeon HD 4850.

I have the same issue with clicking on the cues tab crashing MediaShout; however, I can click and drag an item in the cues box to the script, but if I just click anywhere on the cues tab items, it will crash.

Our problem was consistent with a MediaShout shutdown on the first time the Cues Tab was clicked. After our last post, our Worship Leader called Tech Support and nothing they suggested at that time fixed the problem. Their Tech then suggested uninstall/reinstalling MediaShout (and possibly Windows 7 as well), then not using any scripts/cues previously prepared in version 3. I deactivated and uninstalled MediaShout 4.5 and found the uninstaller left a lot of files/folders all over the computer which I removed by searching in Windows Explorer, then used CCleaner to remove 6 leftover entries in the Registry. I also removed all old version 3 scripts from the hard drive so that the new install of version 4.5 could not search/find them. Then I reinstalled using the latest full download from MediaComplete web site, copied back in our Bibles and Songs from the previous install, so that I did not have to use the version 3 CD for anything on this install. So far, with limited testing at home and at church, I have not seen the error so I am hopeful that it is fixed; however, until we have a few weeks running I can't say for sure it is fixed. Hope this helps anyone else having this problem.

    sad I’m anxious
This is VERY frustrating. I even tried renaming and/or deleting the script that MS was auto-opening in the cues tab, therefore causing it to open a NEW empty script on launch, and it still crashed sometimes.

  • A user called with the same issue. I ran a clean reinstall and the problem cleared up.

    • Thanks, I'll try that.
    • I tried resetting the defaults and cleared the history. I also deleted the contents of the User Settings. It was still crashing when clicking on the "Files" tab and/or the cues tab. It seems to happen more when both the files tab and the cues tab are both open. I closed the files tab and just left the cues tab open. I opened and closed MediaShout several times and it seems to have stopped crashing at the moment.

MediaShout also crashes when selecting the "Files" tab. I deleted the contents of the "User Settings" folder and that seems to have fixed the problem. Do you know why this causes MediaShout to crash? If we're deleteing the contents of the "User Settings" folder, what is the purpose of that folder? Is there something that can be done to prevent this from happening?

indifferent I’m not sure because not using 4.5 yet
I would like to know from any of the current users of media shout 4.5, did you buy the PC that you are currently using through Media Shout, or simply brought the software and loaded tit o your previous PC. I am asking this question because I am currently using 3.5 and the church has approved for me to buy one of the packets deals(NOT THE MAC). As we all knows the church enjoys the services when things go well but one problem happens and we a burned(Sorry John Phillips, I know you are doing all you can to fix and give solutions to each problem, but our church folks do not you on Sunday they see me and the others in which the problems are happening to. So please could one of you who are experiencing the problems answer this question) God bless you Mr. Phillips for your help, and if none of current user answer me feel free to weight in.
    • gaterman,

You may need to clarify what problems you are concerned about so the users may address them. The crash issue described here is system specific and deleting the User Settings will usually resolve it.
    • We have MediaShout on a total of 6 computers (including my own personal computer). We have 3 computers running WindowsXP, one of which is using 3.5 and the other 2 have 4.5. The other 3 are running Windows7 64-bit (2 are on Home Premium and the other one is running 7-Pro. On all of these, we had purchased the software and loaded it on each one. They all started out on 3.5 and then upgraded to 4.5. The computers that have been having the crashing problem is on the Windows7 computers. I have not had any of these issues on the XP computers.

A month ago, a clean reinstall fixed our ongoing problems with MS 4.5 shutting down the first time we clicked on the Cues Tab. Last Friday, 3 times in a row, clicking on the Files Tab caused MS 4.5 b264 to close. It had worked fine the previous Sunday and had not been used in between. Also, no MS 3 files have been used on this computer since the reinstall a month ago. Using the suggestions from other posts, with MS not running I deleted the user.dat file from the "User Settings" folder. Restarted MS, went to Tools > Settings > Controls and ran "Clear History" and "Restore Defaults". After this I could click on the File Tab without a shutdown. However, one of the above actions caused all the Bible Cues headers to show the Bible version as (New) instead of (NASB). I then went to Tools > Settings > Bibles and there were now no Bibles in the Bible list, so I clicked the “Refresh Button” and after the Refresh, all of the Bibles were listed and the Bible Cues displayed the proper Bible version. The computer was built by us and is running Win 7 Pro x64.
We really need some long term fix for this recurring problem of clicking on the Cues or Files Tabs causing the program to shut down.

Same computer as the above post and same problem once again. It ran good for one week before the problem started again. Building scripts for our 3 venues, clicking on the Files Tab caused MS 4.5 b264 to close. Once again, I did the temporary fixes listed in the above post, except during the Restore Defaults, I left the Songs and Bibles unchecked so we would not have the problem with losing the Bible list. The program then worked for about 10 minutes and then clicking on the Files Tab again caused MS to close. I gave up using the Files Tab and copied the needed files directly from Windows Explorer into the Script. The above actions this time changed all of our Pre-Service Loop JPG cues' advances to "Dissolve" at the slowest possible setting, which had to be fixed. Also, after the first fix/restart, none of the Text Cue Templates were shown when I tried to make a new Text Cue, but they came back after closing/reopening MediaShout again. Our original problem of shutting down when clicking the Cues Tab, that occurred 3 months ago, and then two months ago, etc, has not occurred for over a month.
We are considering another uninstall/cleanup/Registry Clean/reinstall of MS, but have no reason to believe it will last longer than a month. I will be meeting with our Tech Director and Worship Minister next week, where we will discuss a plan of action, including calling MS Tech Support for their advice before giving up on MS. Please fix this issue.

  • We understand this is affecting a number of users. However, given the number of users we have, this only affects a very small number. This is just to say it is a system specific issue, and it is issues like this that are the most difficult to fix because they are the hardest to reproduce. Never the less we will get this fixed as soon as we can figure out what is causing it.

If you are one who is experiencing this issue and are willing to help, please email me a copy of your User Settings folder. To do this, go to C/Users/Public/My Shout/V4/ and right click on the User Settings folder and select Send to/Compressed zip folder. Please send me this zipped folder along with your specific version of Windows and indicate whether it is 32 or 64bit. Please send this to john(at)mediashout(dot)com. Once I collect a handful of files, I can send them off to the developer of analisys.

On a good note, I had a conversation with one of my power beta testers who was experiencing this issue. He claims to have found a possible solution/workaround. He set MediaShout to run in compatibility mode for Windows 7. It may not make much sense, but after applying the setting, he has not had any reoccur acne of the issue. Please note, this is for systems running Windows 7.

To apply this setting do the following:
    1. Right click the desktop icon and go to properties.
    2. Select the compatibility tab and check the box to Run in compatibility mode.
    3. From the list of options, select Windows 7 (usually the last option) and click OK

If you find this helps, please let me know. But in the mean time, rest assured we will get this figured out.

After applying the compatibility mode to Windows 7, I am now having a problem opening packed scripts on our computer that is using XP. When I went back and unchecked the box for the compatibility mode, repacked the script, it will then open on my XP computer. Hopefully, there might be a way to resolve this issue.

I've been having the same issue of the MS program crashing and running it in compatability mode just didn't cut the update link for Micrsoft visual c++ 2008 didn't fix it. so decided to do a simple uninstall and reinstall. All worked fine. But on restart the program failed to start with a "your activation Licence is curently the wrong file. Please call support."
I was trying to figure what I'de done wrong. But seems that it was a Mediashout issue not on my side.
As we don't as yet have internet conection at the computer. I went to the help desk elsewere and found There was a critical update and also found a later version of visual c++ x86 2008 "Microsoft visual c++ x86 2010" because Mediashout is a 32 bit program.
Upon installing first the latest version of Microsoft visual c++, then the critical update. All the problems have gone. Now not running in compatability mode and doesn't seem to be closing down.
So which fix solved the crashing 1/ Critical update or 2/ the later version of M. visual c++ I don't know but it's gone.

Link to later version of C++ if you are running a windows 7 64 bit system might help if that closing down when clicking on file tab still exists.
